Horrible experience with Thrifty renting a car for a holiday with my young family. Initial car left rear brake pads were completely worn out and deemed undriveable by RACT personnel on the 2nd day of having the car (puts my family including 3 year old and 8 month old at risk). Called and spoke to a guy named Rex who then pushed the blame to me not releasing the handbrake - this is without first checking the car. Then went on to say that they don't service the rear brakes as these are often fine. After a long back and forth, arranged for a replacement vehicle. Someone came with the replacement and drove off in the old vehicle when it should really be towed. Replacement vehicle was then unable to charge the GPS. Was then told to drop in at Hobart city to get fuse replaced but when I got there was told there was no mechanic and that we had to go back to Hobart Airport for this. Had to drive practically with no GPS for the rest of the trip. When I emailed my complaint to Thrifty head office, they offered 8 day refund of my GPS cost and $30 back on my child seats in the car as they were dirty. Really poor quality customer service, no respect for the customer and unwilling to make amends for the disservice. Will never go with thrifty again. Won't recommend them to anyone!
Not impressed with service. Brought the car back with 5 litres short of fuel. Was forced to drive to the gas station to top up or I would have been charge $3.50 per litre. I brought my rental back a day early and received no partial refund or anything. Lady at the desk was rude about the fuel. Cheapest car rentals to go with cheapest customer service.There are better places to rent a car

I hired a car from Thrifty which I picked up at the airport. It was a seven seater. As there are five of us we focus on getting ourselves and luggage into the car and don't pay much attention to the car itself. After we set off my family started to remark that Tasmania had a funny smell to it. After a while we realised it was the car which stank. The smell seemed to be of rotting fish or something more putrid. After we had got to the hotel in Hobart I rang the Thrifty number and complained about the car. Rather than offering to come and replace the car I was told by a rude and indifferent member of staff that it was too late for them to drop off a new car but if I came to their offices they could swap it over. I only had one day in Tasmania so I decided not to bother as it would eat up my time.When I returned the car to the airport the following morning I told the attendant that the car stank, she seemed to ignore me and just kept asking me if I had filled up the tank. At one point I had to ask her if she was listening to what I was saying!At no point was there an apology or any offer of compensation for the shoddy service I had received.Dreadful service and product.
